How should a government be run? Should it be by power, force, and fear or should it be more independent, as in everyone stay in your own country. It's hard to say if you think about it. In one way you need force in order to keep from revolts and civil war. In other way you don't need to be a forceful dictator. So whats the middle ground? If you look at Machiavelli's way of thinking you can see that he determined that only with force you can have a success. That if you were too weak of a ruler or a king you would just be pushed out. Most of the time by force or they would just kill you and your family. Now If you completely switch gears and look at Lao Tzu you can see that his theory was to keep everyone in their own community's and focus on themselves. You can relate this to communism like North Korea.

Who's right between the two? Machiavelli being straight force or Lao Tzu more hippie out-look. Neither are correct, for example if you use Machiavelli theory and use straight force you'll get exactly what you want but sooner or later the people that you are over will revolt over you and at some point keep fighting you until you die or get killed. Looking at Lao Tzu theory of staying out everyone's way, that'll not last for the pure fact of greed and power hungry. But if you're able to find a happy medium between the two you'll succeed and keep the people happy.
